Elite Crates are the top-tier static loot crates in Rust, and they spawn at Launch Site, Military Tunnels, both Oil Rigs and the Nuclear Missile Silo. Every one gives a guaranteed 25 scrap, and the rest of the roll leans heavily toward components, high quality metal and a small chance at real guns. Since the June 2026 update they can also drop the new Ballistic armour set.
All chances below come from Rust Labs' current Elite Tier Crate table. Each chance is per item, per crate, so several items can roll from one crate.
Where Elite Crates spawn
Elite Crates only show up at the hardest monuments, usually behind keycards or heavy scientist patrols.
- Launch Site. The main building roof after the red card puzzle is the classic spot.
- Military Tunnels. Corrosion Hour lists a red train cart that can hold up to four elite crates with no puzzle needed, plus three in the red card Laboratory room and more on the shelving in the far left room.
- Large Oil Rig. Elite crates spawn on levels 5 and 6, including the red card room at the top.
- Small Oil Rig. One elite crate sits in the white office under the helipad on level 4, behind the blue and red card doors.
- Nuclear Missile Silo. Corrosion Hour notes one in the back of a pickup on underground level 5.
- Underwater Labs have their own Underwater Lab Elite Crate, which Rust Labs lists as a separate container.
Counts are "up to" numbers. Not every spawn point is filled on every visit.
Elite Crate loot table
Guaranteed and common rolls
| Item | Amount | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Scrap | 25 | 100% |
| SMG Body | 1-3 | 33% |
| Tech Trash | 2-9 | 28% |
| Metal Pipe | 5-15 | 28% |
| High Quality Metal | 15-70 | 28% |
| Rifle Body | 1-3 | 23% |
| MLRS Rocket | 1 | 20% |
| Targeting Computer | 1-3 | 15% |
| CCTV Camera | 1-3 | 13% |
| Advanced Blueprint Fragment | 1 | 10% |
| Pistol Bullet | 15-48 | 10% |
This is where most of an elite crate's value sits. Rifle bodies, SMG bodies, tech trash, targeting computers and CCTV cameras all recycle into a decent pile of scrap and HQM, so even a "bad" elite crate is worth emptying into the recycler.
Weapons
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| Assault Rifle (1-2) | 4% |
| MP5A4 (1-2) | 4% |
| Bolt Action Rifle (1-3) | 4% |
| Thompson (1-2) | 3% |
| Custom SMG (1-2) | 3% |
| HMLMG, SKS, M92, Prototype 17 | 2% each |
| L96, LR-300, Rocket Launcher, Homing Missile Launcher, M39, Spas-12 | 1% each |
Guns in elite crates spawn damaged. Rust Labs lists most rifles at 10-20% condition, the bolt and L96 at 1-5%, and the LR-300 at 50-100%. Expect to repair anything you pull.
Armour, explosives and other notable drops
| Item | Chance |
|---|---|
| Supply Signal (1-2) | 4% |
| Salvage Workbench Upgrade | 4% |
| Accelerated Workbench Upgrade | 4% |
| Ballistic helmet | 3% |
| Ballistic vest | 3% |
| Ballistic leg armour | 3% |
| BDU shirt, BDU pants (1-2) | 2% each |
| Metal Facemask, Metal Chest Plate (1-2) | 2% each |
| Timed Explosive Charge (1-2) | 2% |
| Explosives (1-2) | 2% |
| Military Silencer, 8x Zoom Scope, Weapon Lasersight | 2% each |
| Night Vision Goggles, Variable Zoom Scope | 1% each |
The long tail is around 1% each: electrical parts, armored hatches, garage doors, heavy plate pieces, a chainsaw and so on. C4 at 2% is low but it does happen, and it is the one roll that matters for a raid more than anything else in the crate.
What changed in 2026
The Built Different update on 4 June 2026 added the Ballistic Armour set (helmet, vest and leg armour) and BDU shirt and pants. Facepunch says both are loot-only and cannot be crafted. Rust Labs now has all three Ballistic pieces in the elite table at 3% each, and both BDU pieces at 2% each. The same update added the M16A2 burst rifle, but it does not appear in the elite table on Rust Labs. It drops from locked crates instead (12% there).
Two later patches affect elite crate runs:
- Breach and Clear (September 2026) added monument blockers to monuments with red keycard puzzle rooms. They take a lot of damage to break, do not respawn once destroyed, and start to decay if nobody breaks them within 24 hours. In practice the first red card runs of a wipe at Launch Site and similar spots cost more boom or time than before.
- Livestock (October 2026) added Powergrid loot rooms to Launch Site, Military Tunnels and other monuments. They stay closed until enough Heavy Fuses are in the Power Plant. Facepunch did not say what spawns inside.
Respawn time
There is no in-game timer you can see. The Rust Fandom wiki gives a 15 minute spawn rate for elite crates, and Corrosion Hour says the Military Tunnels train cart crates can come back within 25 minutes if you camp them. Treat it as a rough 15 to 25 minute window that varies by server. The August 2026 Power Trip patch also fixed loot containers restarting their refresh cooldown after a server restart, so a restart no longer resets the clock.
How to farm elite crates efficiently
- Military Tunnels is the best no-card farm. The train cart crates need no puzzle, just a fight with the scientists guarding them. Grab the cart, leave, come back later.
- Run cards in a loop. A full card run through Launch Site or Military Tunnels hits several elite crates at once. Bring the cards and fuses you need ahead of time; the keycard puzzles guide covers each route.
- Oil Rig gives elites plus a locked crate. If you are already clearing Large Oil Rig for the locked crate, the elite crates on levels 5 and 6 come with it.
- Recycle everything. Components are the main value. Keep guns, C4, signals and armour, recycle the rest.
- Go in geared. These are heavy-traffic monuments. A roof camper with a bolt will take your loot faster than any scientist.
